Dear Friends,
We at “Under the Bridges and on the Streets” are having a blanket drive in the month of November, 2015. We are asking for any clean (washed recently or dry-cleaned) heavy blankets that we can give out to the homeless when we meet to prepare nutritious bagged lunches on November 28th at 9:00am. The following is an excerpt from the Sunday N.Y. Times, 6/14/2015

The homeless census, based on a three-day survey by 5,000 volunteers in January, put the official homeless population for Los Angeles County, which includes the city of Los Angeles, 44,359. The report confirms what is anecdotally obvious: People are sleeping on sidewalks up and down Sunset Boulevard, living in cars in South Los Angeles and huddling in the kind of tent cities one confined to Skid Row, which the report found had substantially grown by 12%.
If you have blankets that are thick enough to be used outside, you can deliver these by one of two ways. You cancall me and let me know how many you have and that you will be bringing them on November 28th at 9:00am,or you can call me and I’ll arrange a time when you can deliver them when I am home [I work from home]. Just, please make sure that they are thick and clean. Thank You!!
Sincerely
John Shinavier, Executive Director 310-402-3130
